I was fortunate to manage to get down to a paddle session on Thursday - been a long time since I last paddled in Darwin - and it was great to see the excitment of all those who are planning to paddle the Ord - especially the first timers!
This is a really special and unique adventure - 55 kms down the Ord River - read all about the first group from Dragons Abreast to paddle the Ord in our book A Dragons Tale - that was in 2004 and now there are many more members who have all undertaken this fantastic journey.
This year Pru Menzies and Greg Candy from Dragons Abreast Melbourne will be joining in the paddle too. I am sorry I won't be in Darwin to see them all - especially to return the hospitality shown to me by Pru and Greg on my visits to Melbourne - but I know that all the NT girls will make them welcome!
Cheers

Sylvia's walk comes to an end
Members of Brave Hearts Dragons Abreast were honoured to meet Jenny and Sharon at the end of their walk along the Hume and Hovell track. Their walk of over 400 km was through rugged and hilly bush country but they arrived at the Hovell Tree in Albury in a remarkably fit and happy state. They were very happy to share a glass of champagne with us and were also keen to find the location of the nearest laundry. Although none of us had ever met Sylvia, we were attending our first ever dragon boat event at the Nagambie Nationals on the day she passed away. We could tell from the speeches that were made that day that she was a very special lady. It seems that she has passed her special qualities onto some of her friends too.

Amazons Off to the World Championships in Penang
This has been and continues to be an exciting year for the Amazons. Our 2 new pink boats "Amazon Dream" and "Amazon Warrior" have arrived and been blessed. We ( with Warrior and Dream) participated in the Nationals here at home and were awarded 3 Bronze Medals. To our surprise this resulted in an invitation to the 2008 World Championships in Penang this August. So instead of winding down to a relaxing winter training schedule we have in the space of a week committed a team for the Worlds and are training with even greater enthusiasm.
Thanks to the DASzlers for coming to the Nationals here - it was a rare treat for us to paddle (and sing our song with) another Pink Team.
