Canberra Day regatta

We were privileged to have in Canberra last weekend Dragons Abreast members from Dubbo, Wagga, Merimbula and Illawarra. A great weekend of racing, thanks to CDBA, with lots of help from DAA ACT ladies who were acting as marshalls, timekeepers, starters, finishers, boat wranglers, etc., as well as paddling in the regatta.

24 of us had a dinner on the Saturday night, sharing stories and experiences. It is great to make new friends via this network, and I understand that Merimbula has offered to host us all in the new future. DAA ACT was most generous in providing drinks and hot cross buns to our visitors.

The regatta was a mixture of corporate teams and sports teams, so there was great variety in the paddling, but the corporates had a lot of fun racing, while some of the sports teams really put on the speed! There are plenty of regatta photos on the website www.dragonsabreast.com.au/gallery.htm but if you have some more, please send them in! The next CDBA local regatta is on 5 April, followed by Funday Sunday on 4 May and Sunbeam Classic (Mixed Masters - get it?) on 11 May. Regional teams welcome!

Illawarra Dragons Abreast

Helena and Lesley travelled to Canberra 14th March and Paddled with Merimbula on Saturday. We had a great time, beautiful water and meet lots of friends.

We had our New boat launch 24th Feb.08 . We named the boat "Light of the Lake" it blended in with the Lighthouse on our rashies and the lighthouse at Wollongong. The Buddhist Monks from the Nan Tein Temple and Father Catteral Blessed the boat it was a beautiful moving ceremony and was the highlight of the day.A big Thank You goes out to everyone who helped to make our boat launch such a hugh success.

LESLEY.
Have just set up this 'blog' business, so this is my test run. I could simply be floating about in outer space for all I know! Here's hoping I have got it right. Myall Shores seem to have been a great success, wish some of our girls could have been there, perhaps next time. Margaret

Great Weekend at Myall Shores!

Hi all,

Like my friend Jayne from Redcliffe, I too had a wonderful time at Myall Shores Resort and at the Taree Regatta. In Mackay we don't have many opportunities to compete in regattas so it was fantastic to be able to participate in all those races.

Some of us took the dragon boat out on the lake early on Saturday and Monday mornings. It was so beautiful with the black swans and pelicans and that lovely mist coming up off the still calm waters of the lake. Thank you to Karen and Morna for giving me some much needed sweep training and thanks to the paddlers for your patience and encouragement.

It was so good to catch up with old friends and make many more new ones. We had so much fun with lots of laughs and good times. What a great bunch of people. When can we do this again?

Dragons & Bikies

Hi All
40 degrees here today. I just hope we get a cool change by tomorrow.
We have a most unusual group tomorrow for some fun paddling on the Barwon river.
35 or so members of the Victorian Masonic Motorcycle Assoc. together with Dragons from around Vic will be here. The VMMA have been visiting their Lodges raising funds for our Victorian Dragons.
I'm looking forward to seeing the flowing beards in the boats - that's if they're game enough to be in boats full of 'pink ladies'. Hopefully I will have some photos and when I get the hang of this blogging stuff will post here at Dragonden.

Thank you for the link I hope it works, if so I will add more when it happens. Best wishes to all.

Finally had time to get on the blog

Hi All DAA Clubs
I am sorry I don't have any photo's - just to say I have finally had time to work out how to become a Blog member.
Presently our group is in no man's land as we have been locked out of the Regatta Centre due to Olympic Trials etc.
Jan I am still not sure on a view points - so will be in touch.
Regards to all Blogers

Dragons Abreast Redcliffe

Just come back from a great weekend at Myall Lakes catching up with old sisters and meeting new ones!
Myall lakes resort was wonderful, I enjoyed the beautiful, peaceful surroundings. The villas were spacious and well set up and I'd thoroughly recommend a stay there.
The Taree regatta was fun and we participated in many races. I learnt a lot about drumming!
What else did I learn on the weekend? I should only drink 2 to 3 glasses of wine and that 4 is too many!!!
